Is this a Safe space??
I think everyone needs their birds of a feather.
Hiiii 🌸🌸
Happy New Month!
It’s me again 🙂
Long time no see 😂
I have listened to this song an unhealthy amount of times….
I haven’t written in over six months.
Every time I wanted to, the ideas stayed in my head rent-free.
Life also got busy.
Between work, motherhood, and trying to remember that I’m still a girl with dreams, interests, and a life of my own, the days seemed to move faster than I could keep up with.
I actually planned to send this last night, but my two-year-old cuddled up next to me, and before I knew it, we had both fallen asleep.
Life has been good.
Maybe even better than I expected.
Over the past few months, I’ve learned a lot, unlearned a lot, and grown in ways I didn’t see coming.
One thing I remain deeply grateful for is being someone my family and friends feel safe with.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it truly means to be a safe space.
I don’t think it’s something you tell people. I think it’s something people feel.
It shows in how comfortable they are around you. In the things they’re willing to share with you. In whether they leave conversations feeling better, understood, and accepted.
We often tell people, “You can talk to me about anything.”
But can they really?
Can they tell you the truth without feeling judged?
Can they share their mistakes without feeling condemned?
Can they leave the conversation feeling heard instead of feeling small?
A few months ago, a close friend of mine was going through a difficult time. It wasn’t something I could fix for her, and I honestly didn’t have all the right words.
What I did have was my presence.
There were days she would call, and we would spend hours talking. Sometimes she cried. Sometimes she vented. Sometimes we laughed so hard that, for a moment, she forgot the weight she was carrying.
I walked through that season with her the best way I knew how. Not by solving everything, but by staying.
By listening. By reminding her that she didn’t have to carry it all alone.
Looking back, that experience taught me something very important.
Most people are not looking for someone to rescue them. They’re looking for someone who will sit beside them while they find their way through.
Someone who sees them.
Someone who understands.
Or at the very least, someone willing to try.
I’ve come to realize that being a safe space isn’t about having all the answers or saying the right things.
It’s about being present.
It’s about creating a space where people can breathe, even if only for a moment.
But as much as I am grateful to be a safe space for others, I am equally grateful for the people who have been that for me.
The friends who answer my calls.
The people who let me show up exactly as I am.
The ones who listen without rushing me, judge me less than I judge myself, and remind me that I don’t always have to be strong.
Being a safe space is a gift.
Having one is a blessing.
And in a world where so many people feel unseen, unheard, and misunderstood, both are worth cherishing.
So today, I’m grateful for the people who trust me to be there for them.
And I’m grateful for the people who hold space for me.
Until next time
~With love, Kanka🌸
